RED WINE! To those of you who may have caught a recent TV show that talked about a wonder drug of the future that will slow the entire ageing process, guess what - its nothing new. The ingredient talked about is Resveratrol and has already been used for some years in a supplemental form. Its one of those elements found in red wine that helps explain the "French Paradox" and is a potent anti-oxidant. It may seem that I go on about anti-oxidants all the time, sorry, but it is important. While I personally prefer to use our Berry radical formula, we do use a tablet from the Metagenics range that actually includes resveratrol. This is a product known as "Oxidant Protection". Its less expensive and easy to take and includes grape seed extract, Huzhang(a source of resveratrol), Vit C, Vit E, Zinc, Vit A and selenium. So if you want to start on your resveratrol now try clicking here The facts on SALT. The following comes from an article written by Robin Day and may help clarify some of the myths surrounding salt and its use as a mineral supplement. The three most common forms are rock salt or mined salt (Himalayan), sea salt(Celtic or NZ) and processed. Salt is a seasoning product and has very limited value as a mineral supplement apart from where there is a proven sodium deficiency. In fact it is of no real value as a mineral replacement supplement or for electrolyte replacement and can in many cases cause existing deficiencies to become an even greater problem. Salt does commonly contain a full spectrum of minerals but the problem is that about 40% is made up of sodium with the rest of the minerals in very small trace amounts. If you have the opportunity to gain an analysis of many salt products, and this can be found in various reviews, they often contain at least, toxic metals like aluminium, mercury, cadmium and so on. It is rather ironic that people are avoiding processed salt because of the impurities but end up just as poorly off by using rock salt. An analysis can be seen on http://www.crystalsalt.co.nz/salt_for_life.htm Many of us endeavour to avoid ingesting these types of toxins and so it is a concern that people may be falling into a trap whilst thinking they are doing the right thing. However, if we look a bit further at the biochemistry of sodium and the body it is pretty easy to understand why we need to avoid too much sodium. What we want in the body is homoeostasis or balance. All minerals have relationships with other minerals(and of course vitamins). These relationships are both synergies and antagonisms. As an electrolyte, sodium has primary relationships with other electrolytes. On the other hand, it strongly antagonises potassium, magnesium and calcium, so taken in excess will have the effect of depleting these other critical electrolytes. Another interesting question that sometimes comes up relates to a test that is performed that demonstrates the varying electrical conductivity of different forms of mineral supplements available. Here is a link to a short video http://www.biotrace.co.nz/movie2.cfm The question sometimes asked is "Why does salt show stronger on a light test than CMD?" This is because salt is 40% sodium and sodium is an exceptional conductor of electricity. Salt has an abnormally large amount of sodium whereas CMD is 99% sodium reduced. So, as you would expect salt turns the light on brighter - this is so for your expensive sea salt or processed table salt! The important thing to remember this has nothing to do with nutrition. The question is also asked - "how does Himalayan rock salt(HRS) compare to CMD as a mineral supplement, it makes a brighter glow in the light test therefore isn't it better?" Since CMD has 99% of Sodium removed the comparison is plain wrong. There are several issues that should be discussed in relation to salt and mineral balancing. Salt - rock or sea - is absolutely the wrong product to use for mineral balancing at any time, the excess sodium is just one factor. Some packs of salt state "contains potassium as checked by MAF" or something along these lines, this may be correct, but the amount of potassium is so small that it is likely to be nutritionally useless as this minute quantity is unlikely to make it through the gut with little chance of absorption. So is salt a good source of minerals? Not in my book, if you are using salt, that's OK, or better still, if it is flavour you are looking for try one of the tasty organic herb salt products around, more herbs that salt and wonderful flavours. Just don't use salt as a source of minerals. CMD Concentrated Mineral Drops. Minerals are the most basic elements that the human organism requires to function on all levels and CMD Concentrated Mineral Drops is a dietary supplement formulated by nature for greater bio electric health & body mineral balancing. It is suitable for regular or sodium restricted diets and so concentrated that 40 drops (1/2 teaspoon) is equivalent to the mineral content of 1/2 cup sea water with 99% sodium removed. CMD Concentrated Mineral Drops is intended to be a comprehensive mineral and electrolyte supplement that can be confidently used as a complement to all alternative/complementary therapies to provide a complete, full spectrum trace mineral support. Minerals and trace minerals are critical to the health of the human body. They are the catalysts for all the vitamins and other nutrients your body uses for developing and maintaining good health. Concentrated Mineral Drops(CMD) captures the perfect balance of those minerals. Using CMD® Concentrated Mineral Drops every day (mix with juice, food or remineralize purified water) will help conduct and generate your body's entire electrical system. People taking these drops normally say they have more energy and generally feel better. CMD® originates from the isolated waters of the north arm of the Great Salt Lake, Utah, USA. The Great Salt Lake itself covers some 6,000 square kilometres and represents a terminal collection of the rivers and streams. This drainage system covers an area of 90,000 square kilometres of the Rocky Mountains. CMD has long been a part of our daily regime, maybe its time to add this to yours? See this months special below. HEART ATTACKS A serious note about heart attacks, a cardiologist says that if everyone who reads this tells 10 others, you can be sure that we'll save at least one life. Read it and tell a friend and help someone you may know. Not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. You may never have chest pain as the first symptom during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can WAKE you from a sound sleep. The more we know about our body the better chance we have to survive. Lets be careful and be aware.
